OpenSUSE 10.1, yast and installing an update

OK, I found something. I am learning!
In the YaST GUI, when a particular package is selected information about
it is displayed below the package list. There are various tabs there
including "Packages" In this tab I see the version and package that is
installed AND the Guru package of the new version. By clicking the
radio button to the left of the Guru package, that version now shows up
in the package list above in the "Avail. Ver." column! And, now it
allows me to select it for update.
Let's see if it will do the update. Please hold...
It appears to be downloading the packages and dependencies... The new
version 1.4 is now running!
Interesting that it did not "automatically" find the new versions from
the new repository. Is it normal to have to over-ride previous with the
new like this?
