What are the steps to connect a Linux box up to Qwest DSL?

I just subscribed to Qwest's DSL service and I purchased
a "2WIRE" brand DSL modem/router that was recommended by
a tech at RedSeven Computers.

After connecting everything up, power, phone wire, the yellow
ethernet wire (I guess that is what it is), I rebooted and
the modem/router shows two green lights and one yellow light,
but what else do I need to do?

When I move the mouse over the the network interface icon
on the status bar panel, a prompt says: "Network is up on
interface eth0" and when I click on that icon, a "Network
Monitoring" dialog opens and shows "sent" and "received"
activity, but when I click on the "Connect adsl" button,
after seeing "Connecting to Internet" for a few seconds,
I see a message that reads: "Connection failed. Verify your
connection in the Mandriva Linux Control Center"

So, I go to K > System > Configuration > Configure your Computer >
enter the root password > and in the next window that opens,
I click on "Network & Internet" > then on "Set up a new network
interface (LAN, ISDN, ADSL, etc. ... and I see 7 options:
[*] LAN connection
[-] Wireless connection
[-] ADSL connection
[-] Cable connection
[-] ISDN connecgion
[-] Modem connection
[-] and DVB connection

First, I tried ADSL and that didn't work, so I tried LAN
and then chose "Automatic IP (BOOTP/DHCP) instead of the
only other option, Manual config.

Then, a new window opens that says: "Configuring network device
eth0 (drier via-rhine) with four options:
[x] Assign host name from DHCP address
(there is a one-line form-fill window, but I have no idea
     what to put in there)
[ ] Track network card id (useful for laptops)
[x]Network Hotplugging
[x]Start at boot

I have no idea what to do here, so I just click on <Next>

Then, a new window says "New Connection" and it says:
"Please enter your host name.
Your host name should be a fully-qualified host name
such as "mybox.mylab.myco.com".
You may also enter the IP address of the gateway if you have one.
Last but not least you can also type in your DNS server IP addresses.

Say what? Again, I have no idea what to put in the one-line form-fill box
with the caption: Host name (optional).

Since it said optional, I just clicked on <Next> again.

Then a new "New connection" window says:
If desired, enter a Zeroconf hostname.
This is the name yoiur machine will use to advertise any of
its shared resources that are not managed by the network.
It is not necessary on most networks.

So, since it says it is not necessary, I leave the
Zeroconf Host name box blank and click <Next>

Then it asks "Do you want to allow users to start the connection?
[*] Yes
[ ] No

I just click <Next>

Then a message says:
Congratulations, the network and Internet configuration is finished.

After this is done, we recommend that you restart your X environment
to avoid any hostname-related problems.

I did that, but it still doesn't work.

However, after doing all this, now my dial-up connection no longer works.

Help!
