bypassing startup scripts

Anyone know if there is a key sequence for bypassing a startup script
during boot in Linux (RedHat in particular)? I thought there was one,
but for the life of me I can't remember it, nor find anything online. I
might just be confusing it with C-\ on HP-UX.
