fc4, music.raw, and mute

I just noticed this, and it explains how I ran out of
drive space recently.

When I have the sound muted, X creates a music.raw
file. Wel,, I assume its related to X or the sound
daemon, because it happens in gnome and kde.

This is on an hp pavilion zv5000 laptop.
Any ideas?
