SpinRite doesn't do anything with the filesystem. It works directly on the physical disk. The filesystem on the disk is irrelevant.

Does SpinRite work on NTFS?  THe manual keeps referring to a DOS partition.

(I'm getting ready for plan B as dd-rescue is almost done - yes it has 
been working over 3 weeks.)
