Need Help with X-terminal Configuration

I am able to get an older Pentium laptop to access my server as an x-terminal.

Is there a way to read and write to the local disk? In other words, I want to 
use Openoffice writer on my server but read/write the data file to the local 
disk. How do I configure this?

The laptop has a minimal debian installation - just enough to get it working 
as an x-terminal.
