i need to impress a girl

hi.
i want to make my computer boot up to xterm and then
use xterm to call up other stuff.  i am using ubuntu
5.10.  i know that i have to do something to a boot
file and probably to an x file also.  i just don't
know where and what those files are and what to do to
them.  please help.
