When I turned 18 it was eight years before the ideas
that became Unix came out of a talk session between Ken
Thompson and Dennis Ritchie. It was still eight and a
half years before second 0 in the so-called Unix era as
documented in ctime(3). Bill Gates was still five years
old.
Obviouly some of us just can't let this thread go.
Sean, if you haven't been scared off by all the mean
and/or silly people on this group and are still
reading, please trust that (a) you are abundantly
welcome to participate in PLUG, where there are also
people of wisdom and experience who are willing to
share what they know; (b) you may actually learn more
about Linux (if that's what you're interested in, as
contrasted with "technology" in general as you stated
in your inquiry) by being around people who have been
working with it and its predecessors daily for many
years than from zealously interested but less
experienced individuals; (c) there are legions of young
people interested in technology most everywhere that I
know about, and they aren't hard to find. But there are
more of them in China and India, where students aren't
as lazy as they are in the US.
