Mandrake 9.0 Disaster

The Linux side of this computer is broken!

The LILO menu had an item Linux-ent.

I selected this item and the system booted very wierdly.
The usual Mandrake sign on shows two users. Bob and Vera.
This time it came up with a completely different sign on
screen that said "Welcome on Localhost" and showed an icon
for every user listed in the /etc/passwd file. There is no
choice for window manager. The only choice is default.

When any user is selected and logged in, some primitive
window manager comes up and the only thing that can be seen
on a pure black screen is a terminal window without any
frame. No color bar or buttons on the top. Tried to run
startx, but no go -- display in use.

Mozilla will run from the command line. When it comes up
there is no top color bar or command buttons. Also, the
mail function comes up, but can not get any keyboard entry.
Every GUI program started appears at 0,0 on the screen
with no top color bar and can not be moved.

It appears that something in Linux-ent changed something
somewhere that goes to a different window manager and
KDE does not start up.

Does anybody know how to restore the usual Mandrake sign on
that allows KDE, Gnome, etc to start?
