Apt-get question

No need to remove and reinstall... Don't know what X server you are using
but dpkg-reconfigure packagename will rerun the configuration for any
package.  If you are using xserver-xfree86 do:

dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86

and the configuration program should re-run.
