Audio package for Linux

I lookin' for a good package to record music with.  I don't have much 
experience w/ what is good, bad, and needed.  Is this package good for 
studio quality recordin'?  What kind of interface(s) do I need to use in the 
computer?  Is there a sound card that works best w/ it?
