Hi There,

Does anyone here have any experience with how to go about finding
contracting jobs that companies like IBM in Tucson post? It seems that
from IBM's end, they want to find qualified people but have a hard time
doing so. Recruiters want to maximize profit. The rest of us just
desperately want a job! :)

I've been thinking about trying to get a hold of the HR people at IBM in
Tucson (and at other companies) in an attempt to bypass recruiters and
get my resume hopefully into the hands of hiring managers who could use
my skills. I'm specifically referring to contracting jobs. I get the
impression that recruiters charge IBM and similar corporate clients well
in excess of $100/h while the engineer is lucky if he or she sees $35/h.

There are several things I'm unsure about, though. When dealing with a
massive company, how does one find out whom to contact? Do such
companies prefer to hire independent consultants individually or do they
prefer (insist on) working through a corporation (either is fine with
me)?

Finally, what's the best way to identify really small, particularly
startup, companies in Phoenix? That might be an even more productive
avenue to explore, but it's especially difficult given how far away I
live-thousands of miles.

Thank You!

Steve
