Sounds like it might be a problem with the motherboard settings. You
might want to check its manual to see the highest clock speed the board
can run at as well as the voltage and bus speed set for the processor on
the motherboard.

Does anyone have any experience w/ AMD processors? I have purchased the
above combo fm Fry's and installed everything. My problem is that the
processor speed only shows 1.5 GHz and the processor name is "AMD Athlon
XP 1800+" in the system BIOS and OS. I even dl the amdcpuid.exe file,
which shows the same thing as the OS/BIOS. Even the cpuinfo.exe file
shows the same thing. Both file are fm AMD's web site.
Now, I know the 2400+ operates @ a speed of 2 GHz. So, what am I doing
wrong? Am I missing something here? The system BIOS does not allow me
to change any speeds, unless I am missing the BIOS settings to do this.
PLEASE help!!!
