Any NIC with a Realtek chipset (RTL8139 appears on the big chip on the
card), usually the $10 PCI batch at Fry's Electronics have never failed me.
I prefer 3com for "industry standardness", but if you need something quick,
cheap, and that works on Linux, the generics with RTL8139 won't stear you
wrong.

My computer is a compaq presario 14xl244 laptop it currently has a combo
minimodem nic card. I found a driver for the modem but I can't seem to find
one for the nic card. So can anyone suggest a card. I dread the thought of
taking this box apart, but it looks like I'm kinda stuck. By the way I'm
poor so I'm looking for the cheapest card supported.
