Hi Itdamager,

Yes!  There are accessibility solutions both for Linux and for Windows.  I
have significant experience with access technology for the blind and
visually impaired; most of that experience is in Windows, but also some in
Linux as I have two accessible Linux boxes here on my home network.

Before I get started, it is important to understand two terms.  A screen
reader is a program that provides on-screen information to the blind in
Braille, text-to-speech or both.  A screen enlargement program provides
on-screen information in enlarged print form.

For the most general, but very helpful, starting point to learn about access
to Linux for the blind and visually impaired, check out BLinux at the

There is a screen reader available for Linux as well.  This is for people
who access Linux through completely nonvisual means.  You can learn more
about the Speakup project at the following URL:
http://linux-speakup.org

Of course, I'm sure you realize it is certainly possible to connect to Linux
systems from Windows clients.  This may provide a wider array of access
technology solutions for the needs of the user.  Here are some relevant

Freedom Scientific
Manufacturers of screen enlargement and screen reading software, among other
products for the blind and visually impaired.
I use their JAWS (Job Access with Speech) screen reader every day!
