Yes, it is true that most (all?) proprietary licensing terms absolve the vendor of all responsibility.  However, they have other reasons for wanting to resolve a problem for a customer such as ensuring future business and preventing PR problems.

Free Software has similar motives for supporting a user like project contributor reputations and preventing PR problems.

The bottom line, as I see it, is that both proprietary and Free Softare producers are absolved from responsibility.  The proprietary vendors wants more of your money, the Free Software producer wants the software to work.  Which motive should you trust?

The "other" bottom line is that the business world percieves responsibility with a proprietary software vendor and percieves none from Free Software.  We have to change that perception.
