LDAP and Linux

I used OpenLDAP at my last place for the same reason, probably
for the same reason: to gain an understanding in how it works.
It's actually quite reqarding once you get it all up & running.

Once I had it up & running, I wrote a simple Perl script running on cron
to grab everyone from the system and update the LDAP server. I was also
running IMP, and it was quite nice to have the webmail system
always with an up-to-date 'addressbook' available. Never had any problems........until I was asked
to get Exchange installed.......................

 I'm kind of new at this but from what I understand, LDAP is a directory 
 service like NDS and AD. I figure
