GNOME or KDE? (thanks)

I am happily running KDE on a PII-450 with 256M so horsepower should not
be 
an issue.

IMHO, KDE is more like windows in appearance and functionality so the 
transition from a windows box would not be difficult.

Others more knowledgeable about development suites can best answer your
