Not that we ever answer questions by suggesting something different ( 
;-) ), but how about:

On OS X box:

Going to "System Preferences/Sharing" and enabling "Remote Login"

On Linux box:

scp -r osxname@xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:/path/to/mp3s/ .

Note that there are probably hundreds of ways to copy files, but I tend 
to use SSH so that is what I offer.
