Weirdmind issues

I'm afraid I'm still having problems getting this to
work. When I run it and connect, I can't run programs
and get the "Can't open display:" error. I was told to
simply set $DISPLAY to the appropriate one, but the
only X display that ever exists is the VNC session I
leave running. Anyone got some more advice on this?
