rms started the GNU Project, www.GNU.org, in 1984. He is the principle
author of the GNU Public License ( GPL ) and verious pieces of software that
make 'Linux' possible.

GNU software forms the basis of the operating system that runs on the Linux
kernel. There are many other pieces of software that make that all possible.

A reason that we'd want to hear him talk is that he evidently knows the
ideals behind the Free Software movement best since he's the one that
defined it. I got answers to a few questions I had and had a few myths
dispelled when he was here before.
