Their instructions don't appear to be accurate.  Try this:

export CVSROOT=:pserver:anonymous@anoncvs.gnome.org:/cvs/gnome
cvs login
   // Hit return when it prompts for a password
cvs co -r HOLLYWOOD gimp

Let me know if that didn't work for you.
