Handspring, USB, KDE, no worky!

There was a thread on a site somewhere where someone had to update to kernel 
2.4.15 before his would work.  The main guy he was talking with didn't have 
the problem with an older kernel.

I am running 2.4.7 (in RedHat 7.2).  I am not sure I am ready to upgrade my 
kernel yet but maybe I have to.  Could I just update the USB drivers, I 
wonder?
