I know this can be done: IMAP, Procmail, SquirrelMail

I use kmail-latest at work, and have the same complaint.  I'm not sure if
that will be a feature included in kde3 or not, but when browsing
kmail.kde.org, I found this:

"6.12 Does KMail support IMAP?

Yes, it does so since KDE version 2.2. It's not yet feature complete, but it
should be enough for many users. We know of those limitations, so please
don't submit wishlist reports about them."

Tried evolution, looked nice, but when it queried my imap server things got
ugly.  imapd started using lots of CPU, and would get up to nearly 500MB
resident memory size before it would die.  This repeated itself every couple
of minutes for a while, then I gave up killed evolution.
