26 is choppy???  Most movies are shown in theatres at only 18 - 24 fps, US TV is
30 interlaced FPS and PAL TV is 25 interlaced FPS.

One thing to check is top.  Maybe there is a background process running.  Also
what video drivers are you running for the Nvidia chipset?
