How do I boot into text mode, without X?

Hi,
Here is the way I do it.
Create a file in your home dir named '.xinitrc'.
Enter this line in the file:
gnome-session
Save the file, exit X if you have it up, and type 'startx'.
When you feel like switching back to KDE, your '~/.xinitrc' might look
something like this:
# gnome-session
startkde
