umount

This would explain it based upon my experience... I also disabled the
automount function which opened a GMC-like window showing the directory
tree of the cdrom. Until I got that part worked out I would just
ctrl-alt-backspace... that seemed to work as well using the xwindow but
was a pain. ;-)
