Format is on the CD in Win 98.  Just boot from floppy with cdrom support and 
cd d: and format and yer done.

What's the problem?,  maybe I can help.

From a fresh install yes?  I never had one problem with any computer that 
would not install and i've done hundreds,  but then i've built the systems.  
Only exception to the contrary would be faulty hardware,  and you can't blame 
an o/s for a defective ram chip or other defective hardware.

We do out fair share of rebooting in linux as well. I've seen the linux box 
lock up so tight not even the mouse or alt-f1-del would work.

My original message wasn't about which o/s is better by the way,  I was just 
stating that distro's need to work together instead of going off on their own 
paths so that some systems will work with this distro and others will work 
with that distro and so on.

Sure you can make a certain distro work, that won't work with your system, but 
often requires purchasing new hardware unless your fortunate enough to find a 
driver that works and know how to compile it into the kernel.
