At the lilo prompt enter : "linux single" and hit return. Hopefully
the system will come up in single user mode and you will get a prompt.
Then enter the command : "chkconfig sendmail off".
This will tell the system not to try to start up sendmail when the
system is booting up into the higher runlevels. This will effectively
disable
sendmail. If you don't have an immediate need for sendmail, you are
done.
Enter "init 3" to bring the system up to multi-user mode without
X-windows,
"init 5" to bring it on up with X, or "init 6" to reboot.
Good Luck,

She can kill all your files;
She can freeze with a frown.
And a wave of her hand brings the whole system down.
And she works on her code until ten after three.
She lives like a bat but she's always a hacker to me.
