cd-rw write problems

in answer to your questions, I am invoking cdrecord through the use of the gui frontends (like xcdroast, et al). those don't give me a lot of choices when it comes to settings.

I was, however, able to finally get the drive to accept a burn (made a coaster when I did, but it worked).
