When I first started developing dbXML, it was exclusively C++ code, so I
chose Qt for the GUI development because it would easily port to
Windows. I liked it quite a bit... I had developed GUIs in Delphi and
C++ Builder in the past, and it was very intutive having had that
experience. My only complaint was having to use the pre-processor to
handle signals and slots, but other that it was fairly easy. I used
KDevelop as my IDE at that point, which is also very good.
IMO, Qt is definitely quite a bit easier than GTK.
I have also played with FLTK a little, but walked away from it without
being overly impressed.

I believe Trolltech is still releasing Qt Free Edition under the QPL
license, but I could be wrong.
