Try doing "apt-get install task-x-window-system", if nothing is to be
installed, you may want to just purge your cofiguration with something like
"export COLUMNS=500; dpkg -l | grep X | awk '{print $2}' | xargs dpkg
--purge" I haven't tested that but it should work, do it without the "dpkg
--purge" command to make sure it's only removing what you want. Sometimes
it's just easier to start from scratch, especially when you have apt to do
your configuration for you.

Note that anything that depends on X-Windows will be removed too, so this
may not be an option. If this is the case, make sure the "misc" fonts are
in your XF86Config-4 file, and make sure that you actually have the fonts
packages installed. Doing a dpkg-reconfigure on the fonts packages (if they
are installed) may help in this case.
