I may not know exactly what is wrong, but I had a similar problem with
mod_ssl on Red Hat. We had a specific user account also set up ( I believe
this to be true ) but SSL would always bail and restart Apache. It's a
glitch in Red Hat.
Just a suggestion but since we changed to Debian, ssl was set up and so was
Apache with a small amount of work. It does just what I want and does it
well. No problems with logrotate either. There was a time where we had
Red Hat fixed, but it was to a point where when the darn thing restarted or
power was lost or something happen to reboot, the command string had to be
redone. It wouldn't accomplish it with a script either, I remember. So, a
permanent fix was not found.
Hope this doesn't confuse you more.
