Opnix is hiring!

Yes it is true that we laid people off about three weeks ago, but it is
important to understand that just becuase a company lays people off that
they will not hire people again. There was a good article about this in
the Business Journal about two weeks ago.

However, let me try to clear the confusion. Opnix has recently found a
really innovative way to deliver its routing technology to the market.
Before we could only deliver it wrapped up in bandwidth. So, unless you
purchsed bandwidth from Opnix you could not take advantage of the really
cool routing technology. What we discovered along the way was that we
could separate the two and deliver just the routing technology to
customers without having to purchase bandwidth.

Opnix decided that this was a much better business model and that the
benefits of being able to deliver our technology in this new way far
out-weighed to other for many reasons. One of the biggest is that we do
not need to spend three to four million dollars to put a pop in each city
before having any customers. Also, becuase of the aggregation of carriers
our bandwidth was much more expensive than anyone elses, however, it is
true that it was much better. This new delivery mechanism allows anyone
with a diverse network to put a client of our routing technolgy at any
decision point and peer it with their router or switch (basically any
point BGP would make a decision would be a prime location for this
product). The box then does all kinds of discovery across the multiple
paths and sends that information back here to our switching core. We take
the customer's information into account with our own discovery information
and every other customer's discovery information and then send back to
that one cusotmer optimized routes specific to his perspective.

We considered this a huge breakthrough and decided to focus the company's
efforts on the development of this product, code named Hydra. The
lay-offs were in response to this. There were parts of the compnay that
did not fit with this new direction, and unfortunately the lay-offs
occured. However, we do have a need for several skill sets that we did
not have before. number one we need to beef up our software development
efforts in order to be able to offer this product this summer. There are
also a few other positions we need to fill as well. Obviously this
product is totally Linux based.

I hope this helps you all to understand a situation which many of you
probably thought was confusing. If anyone has any quesitons please don't
hesitate to ask myself, Jiva, Jay or Nick.

Also, if anyone is interested we can arrange to present this new
technology to the entire group or those of you who are interested.
