Hooking up my box to the web

Thanks for all of the info everybody!  Simple enough to do, but I don't like 
having that tacky :81 at the end of my domain name.  I looked back in the 
archives, and DSL seems to be the answer (so far).
If I were to go the DSL route, how much would it cost to purchase all of the 
hardware necessary so I wouldn't have to rent it.  Also, what are they 
charging now for the line and the internet service?

Thanks for your input, which is more reliable than sales & tech support.
