For the hostname, edit the file '/etc/hostname', or simply try this
command:

# echo Lappy > /etc/hostname

As for the network settings, edit (or add) a section to the file
'/etc/network/interfaces' that looks similar to this:

iface eth0 static
	address 192.168.0.1
	netmask 255.255.255.0
	broadcast 192.168.0.255

The next time you reboot, everything should work the way you expect it.
