To check the bad clusters try booting and keeping all your drives read-only
then run 'badblocks'
I believe you use 'badblocks -sv'
Or if you are willing to risk it try 'badblocks -svn' This will do a
nondestructive read/write test... But I've never tried it, so I can't say
it won't destroy anything..
And if you don't care what's on it, you just want it tested then try this,
'badblocks -svw' Which will write all 00's to the drive and destroy anything
on it, but will clean it really well, especially good for getting rid of
sensitive data.
This is a handy trick . Slackware comes with a live demo cd that can boot a
fully running gui linux system, which makes it real easy to run bad blocks
on aread-only system, or r/w.
But I would suggest doing the '-sv' -s show, -v verbose...
