\_ SMTP quoth Steven M. Klass on 4/9/2001 06:42 as having spake thusly:
\_
\_ Hey all,
\_ Does anyone know how to map a key execute a command, like a /bin/sh
\_ script.

Get a smart keyboard that lets you program macros (a gateway 2k anykey
keyboard, for instance...avail on an ebay near you).

\_ I don't think xmodmap will work,

xmodmap will lie about individual keys, but never whole strings of
them, afaik.

\_ and kde can't do this. I know Enlightenment
\_ and WindowMaker can do this natively,

...because they are full apps and support the notion of key to
arbitrary function. Called 'bindings' in sawfish, fwiw.

\_ but I am using KDE2.1.. Any ideas..

Either convince your window manager to let you bind keys as you want
or investigate the merits of 'hotkeys' (I think) on freshmeat.net.
