This is probably one of the greatest problems with the internet and of
course TV etc. Take a completely amusing and well written short story,
plagarize the living sh*t out of it but try to put a more modern spin and
there are enough illiterates out there that will think that it's clever.
That was a rather insipid, and unimaginative modernization of Maugham's
short story, but of course, it had to be shortened because the TV/internet
generations can handle reading all 5 pages of the original story.
