Well, first test your drive by doing hdparm -Tt /dev/hda (or whatever drive)
and it will give you a transfer benchmark. Then enable 32 bit transfer and
DMA by typing hdparm -c3d1 /dev/hda . If oyur system does not support it or
it is disabled in the bios you will get an error message. Also, I should
have mentioned first to make sure that hdparm is installed. Someone on the
list please correct my message if it is wrong, it has been a while since I
messed with hdparm. Once you get it to work you could put it in your
rc.local. Dunno if it is a clean idea but that is what I do. Hope this
helps you. A quick note on Star Office, remember all the Java it uses.
That is why it may startup a bit slower. If you need a simple word processor
look at cool proggies like Klyx.
