I believe the ssh suite also comes with sftp...but just a client...I was to
hasty to pay attention if there is a sftpd or if it runs through sshd...but,
either way, there is also a sftp client if you like to use ftp-like
interface instead of a cp interface

Be careful with this though. I just took a closer look and only
the control connection is encrypted.
You could try a ppp over ssh tunnel I suppose (which creates a sort of
VPN).
However, you're probably better off just using scp as suggested
by Mark.
