Thanks for the reply.  What I really want to know is how do I back up
the current modem setup.  I can live without the soundcard (but would
rather not), but not without the modem.  I need a way to reliably
restore the current modem settings in case sndconfig screws it up (which
the man page indicates is possible).  

I would like to take an old isapnp.conf file, and run isapnp against
it.  The problem is that I don't know what isapnp does with the
information, and I don't know how to restore the modem config if that
doesn't work.  Thanks.
