Perplexing problem

Hi all,

A strange thing happened to the linux side of my box the other day,  I
couldn't boot into it.  I'm using COL2.3.  When I try to boot, I click
on Linux in Boot Magic and the Caldera boot screen comes up as usual.

In the System Startup Program I get:

	Loading kernel.............Ok
	Booting kernel.............Ok
	
	Loading default modules:
	Plug 'n' Play configuration..Skip

	Minimum system preparation:
	Checking file system........Wait

Right there is where it hangs (for hours, if I let it.)

So, today, I did a complete reinstall, got everything working as I
wanted it, closed it down (with some trepidation), rebooted, and got
hung at "Checking file system.........Wait".

Has anyone a clue as to what's going on?
