\_ I have been able to get my Sony CPD-E400 (19") monitor working with
\_ Linux by messing around with default modelines, but I am sure the
\_ situation is not optimal. It looks pretty raggedy at 1280x1024 and
\_ above; the left side of the display sort of tears a little and there are
\_ left-right, up-down offset issues as well. I tried the Sony website and
\_ their tech support 800 number: nobody seems to have heard of Linux. The
\_ phone-drone even said I would have to talk to Microsoft about X-windows
\_ issues. I politely said that X-windows had nothing to do with M$. I know
\_ the monitor is CAPABLE of working very cleanly at up to 1600x1200 at
\_ non-interlaced high refresh rates because it works well with W98.
\_
\_ Any help or pointers greatly appreciated. No W98 flames or sermons,
\_ please.

see if you have 'xvidtune' floating around anywhere. Read the
warnings, then play with it. Or use the xconfigurator and start with
other 19" monitors as a base.

freshmeat search for 'video timings' or some such. I think there's a
kde tool that's purty for doing that as well as vid_gen or somesuch
from the commandline. You'll need to know you're monitors intimate
secrets though.

There's also a few websites that offer modelines as well.
