please clarify "virtual hosting"

Yeah once they have the DNS down (which they already have to do in order for it to be able to point to your web page) Its not that big of a deal to edit the mx hosting record and take care of the mail. But like George said if they still are updating mx records by hand(no scripts) then its probably just a pain in their butt and not wanting to do it.
