I don't know about WP these days... anyway there's a ton of choices.
I like LyX, but it's unconventional (in a good way, but some people
can't think out of the box... and then there are some actual limitations
that it has, too).  There's AbiWord, Koffice, StarOffice,
Applixware, and so on too.  I think AbiWord is going to be a nice 
combination of small and conventional eventually.  It's usable
now if you don't need features much beyond what MS Word 1.0 had.
