Hi,
I am having a very weird problem.
I am trying to associate IP's with my RedHat server. The first 9 are fine.
When I add any more, they stay around for up to a couple of days (sometimes
only minutes) then they disappear. Meaning if you type IFCONFIG, they no
longer show up and ping fails. The first ones never go away, but I cannot
add new ones. I was told the machine should be able to bind 254 addresses to
the card. This is from the command prompt (no X-Windows installed).
Normally I bind the IP to the card with IFCONFIG, then edit the httpd.conf
to add the NameServer and Virtual Host information and restart the httpd
daemon. The site works fine for some time then no longer responds. When I
check on it, the IP is no longer bound to the card.
I have searched the Red Hat site and some communities and am unable to
locate a solution. If you have any ideas, please email me.
ALSO, I use a company in town (OpNix/Wired Global) with John Kloin. They are
great, but very busy. I need some work done (preferably this week) on the
Linux box. If you have done the following in this environment, I could use a
contract consultant:
0. Fix these IFCONFIG issues/Virtual Hosting problems
1. Install and configure Majordomo with the box and sendmail
2. Install and configure a search engine (we used excite on the old site but
seems to need Perl3 and we have Perl5)
When talking with some consultants, this appears to be a 4-5 hour job, but
most are very busy or do not have experience in this environment. This is a
live server and I cannot afford downtime.
Please contact me if you have any suggestions or help.
Thanks,
Dave
