Hey,
I have encountered a problem in the developer communities in the
valley. 1) Lots and lots of events are springing up all over the
pace. 2) Lots and lots of developers don't know about these events.
This email is an attempt to correct this disconnect, at least for
those of us on this email list!
I just wanted to point out some cool code, programming and software
dev stuff coming up this fall in the valley. Things are exploding!
(Warning: Self-promotion on this first one)

September 18, 2010
This is a no cost, four-hour workshop that introduces participants to
the Agile Manifesto and the Scrum framework. The class will be held
as part of the Gangplank Academy series of learning events at the
Gangplank facility in downtown Chandler. Alan Dayley, Certified
ScrumMaster and Certified Scrum Professional will lead the session.

Open Space – Scrum Beyond Software Development
September 25-26, 2010
This is a two day “open space” conference about using Scrum in
non-software development projects. This event is sponsored by the
Scrum Alliance and will include many Scrum community leaders in
attendance. Details and a registration link are published at the
Scrum Alliance event page.
In conjunction with this two day Open Space event, a one day
introduction to Scrum will be held. This one day class taught by
certified trainers will be held Friday, September 24th, the day
before. You can only register for this one day class if you also
register for the two day event. Registration is available as a option
with an additional fee at the same link above.
The Scrum Alliance is looking for sponsors for this event:
"We also would like to invite your company to be involved in this
great event through sponsorship support. There are currently multiple
sponsorship packages available and the Scrum Alliance would appreciate
your support. Sponsorship benefits include publicity for your company
to our membership community both online and at the event. To be a
company sponsor, please email gatherings at scrumalliance.org.
"We also have a micro-sponsorship option for individuals who wish to
support the event. As an individual you can sponsor Scrum Beyond
Software for as little as $100. In return we'll add your name and a
note of thanks to the event program. Sign up as a micro-sponsor at
http://www.phoenix.scrumgathering.org."

SunnyConf
September 25, 2010
All day, single track Ruby conference in Tempe, AZ. 9 great
presentations on a range of Ruby topics. Breakfast will be provided.
Registration is $100. (http://sunnyconf.com/)

Desert Code Camp
November 13, 2010
This event is volunteer speakers talking about code and things
directly related to coding. You can post class ideas and sign up to
lead classes. Because it is voluntary, the content is mostly up to
whoever agrees to present. Lately the FOSS content at these camps has
been sorely lacking. Linux has been almost absent. Please consider
proposing and even presenting FOSS and Linux topics for this event.

and on the web. (http://phxdw.com/)
-----------
Startup Weekend
October 22-24, 2010

concept to working web presence in one weekend.

Gangplank Hosted Stuff
Gangplank in Chandler seems to have event after event about
development stuff. Too many to list here. This includes a "Technical
Brown Bag" session every Thursday. Check the calendar often for
coming events that might interest you.

I know about other events that are creative though not development
related. Email me if you'd like pointers to some of these.
