Hi Eric,
      Here's more information (as "root"). I've included your two "lspci" 
requests at the bottom but in an effort to "cut to the chase", here's some 
other information.
     The machine is a Dell D810 notebook.
     OS is SuSE 10.0 with "many" pieces added via YaST.
     Basically I have the device's kernel module loaded (ipw2200). I use 
"iwlist eth2 scan" to find the ESSID I want to use, "iwconfig" to set that, 
and then "ifconfig eth2 up" to attempt the association and then "dhcpcd eth2" 
to get IP address, netmask, gateway and so forth. At this point, "ifconfig 
eth2" should (I think) show that an IP address was assigned, but it doesn't. 
(Maybe this sequence of commands is wrong?)

     Here a blow-by-blow log. (Note: eth0 is a hard-wired connection whereas 
eth2 is the wireless link of interest here.)
