Best distrobution for me?

At the core they are all the same so it doesn't matter. Mandrake does
have a game version though so that may be why they suggested Mandrake. I
think anyone would be hard press to find a distro with more development
tools than debian though so that would be my recommendation. (though I
still stand behind my statement of use what your friends are using).
